Treponemal infections in hares in The Netherlands.

چکیده
Treponemal infections in wild European brown hares (Lepus europaeus) from The Netherlands were diagnosed by means of serological tests for human syphilis and histological demonstration of spirochetes by the Bosma-Steiner silver impregnation method in histological sections of skin lesions. The treponeme should probably be classified as "Treponema paraluisleporis."

A Retrospective Study on Genetic Heterogeneity within Treponema Strains: Subpopulations Are Genetically Distinct in a Limited Number of Positions
BACKGROUND Pathogenic uncultivable treponemes comprise human and animal pathogens including agents of syphilis, yaws, bejel, pinta, and venereal spirochetosis in rabbits and hares. A set of 10 treponemal genome sequences including those of 4 Treponema pallidum ssp. pallidum (TPA) strains (Nichols, DAL-1, Mexico A, SS14), 4 T. p. ssp. pertenue (TPE) strains (CDC-2, Gauthier, Samoa D, Fribourg-Bl...
متن کاملEnvironmental surveillance during an outbreak of tularaemia in hares, the Netherlands, 2015
Tularaemia, a disease caused by the bacterium Francisella tularensis, is a re-emerging zoonosis in the Netherlands. After sporadic human and hare cases occurred in the period 2011 to 2014, a cluster of F. tularensis-infected hares was recognised in a region in the north of the Netherlands from February to May 2015. No human cases were identified, including after active case finding. Presence of...
متن کاملSurvey of Treponemal Infections in Free-Ranging and Captive Macaques, 1999–2012
Survey results showed treponemal infection among pet macaques in Southeast Asia, a region with a high prevalence of human yaws. This finding, along with studies showing treponemal infection in nonhuman primates in Africa, should encourage a One Health approach to yaws eradication and surveillance activities, possibly including monitoring of nonhuman primates in yaws-endemic regions.
متن کامل1968 survey of treponematosis in the Eastern Highlands of New Guinea.
Serological tests for treponemal disease were undertaken among the inhabitants of 10 census units in the Eastern Highlands of New Guinea. Many sera gave reactive results to some or all of the tests performed. To exclude biological false positive reactions the Treponema pallidum immobilization (TPI) test was carried out on each serum, the results being taken to indicate the presence or absence o...
